| This work was carried out to record the species of Anastrepha, their host plants and associated parasitoids in Laranjal do Jari and Vitória do Jari, Amapá State. Fleshy fruits of 17 species of 13 families were sampled, from February to July of 2006, in main districts of both municipalities. Nine species of Anastrepha and six species of braconid parasitoids were sampled during this study. |

| ABSTRACT In the antibiotic era, aortic aneurysm is a rare complication of syphilis, what makes the diagnostic assumption even more difficult. Nonetheless, this condition should be suspected in patients with aortic aneurysm. Reports of aortic dissection complicating syphilitic aortitis have been distinctly rare in the literature, and their cause-effect relationship has not been definitely established. In this case report, we present a 62-year-old woman with aortic aneurysm and dissection associated with an unexpected diagnosis of syphilitic aortitis. |

| Este experimento foi conduzido em propriedade particular no município de Caldas-MG, durante o ciclo 1999/ 2000, utilizando plantas pré-estabelecidas da cultivar Niagara Rosada enxertadas sobre RR 101-14, visando a antecipar o período de colheita da videira no sul do Estado de Minas Gerais. | One of the most important problems involving treatments with antibiotics against Aeromonas hydrophila isolated from fishes is that antibiotic resistance develops readily. The antimicrobial activity of chemotherapeutants in isolates from pacu Piaractus mesopotamicus (Holmberg, 1887) and tilapia Oreochromis niloticus (Linnaeus, 1758) was tested by the Kirby-Bauer disk method, over Mueller-Hinton surface agar previously inoculated with 100 µL of bacterial suspensions. | Buscou-se detectar a frequência de anticorpos anti-Neospora spp. em amostras de potros pré-colostrais, bem como estabelecer a melhor diluição do soro sanguíneo para ser utilizado na imunofluorescência indireta. Foram analisadas 203 amostras sorológicas de potros pré-colostrais, pela reação de imunofluorescência indireta em diferentes titulações. As titulações 16 e 50 apresentaram 25,1% e 9,9% de potros pré-colostrais positivos, respectivamente. Dessa forma, em amostras de soro de animais desprovidos de colostro, pode-se considerar a titulação 16 mais apropriada para detectar a ocorrência de infecção pelo protozoário e assim da transmissão transplacentária pelo Neospora spp. em equinos. |

| We report on a case of a patient with HIV infection, diagnosed 18 months prior to the development of an anti-glomerular basement membrane (anti-GBM) rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis; this is probably the first report of such an association. A 30-year-old white man presented with elevation of serum creatinine (1.3 - 13.5 mg/dL within one month). At admission, the urinalysis showed proteinuria of 7.2 g/L and 8,000,000 erythrocytes/mL. | ABSTRACT: The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence and diversity of veterinary clinical isolates of Staphylococcus and analyze their antimicrobial susceptibility. One hundred Staphylococcus spp. clinical isolates from domestic and wild animals were subjected to partial sequencing of the 16S rRNA gene to species determination. Antimicrobial susceptibility was obtained by a disk diffusion test against six antibiotics: amoxicillin (AMX), cephalexin (LEX), ciprofloxacin (CIP), erythromycin (ERY), gentamicin (GEN) and trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (SXT). | Abstract Background Snakebite treatment requires administration of an appropriate antivenom that should contain antibodies capable of neutralizing the venom. To achieve this goal, antivenom production must start from a suitable immunization protocol and proper venom mixtures.
